Notes from building a band that follows the drummer.
Petty wanted his own loops in the app. Five releases later they follow the drummer. The version that was a record player, stretch on a phone's audio budget, and a loop that guesses how many bars long it is.
July 2026Acoustic drums through one phone microphone. Toms hid inside the snare detector for months, the rock backbeat produced a confident false tom, and then I broke the snare while fixing it.
July 2026We opened the Shed this week. The file format took an afternoon, and making that file mean the same thing on somebody else's phone took six weeks and three bugs I would never have found on my own.
September 2026What a following band should do when the drummer lays out for a bar and comes back in. Free-run, stay warm, and the four second constant that quietly broke every slow tune.
July 2026Why hits are not a clock, why a drummer's timing is not an error, the twelve millisecond deadband, and the two bugs that taught me more than the design did.
